Our Logo & Motto

OUR LOGO

Our logo incorporates our motto and the PC(USA) Seal, an important part of our Presbyterian heritage.  Many symbols important to our faith are contained in the Seal: a fish, a dove, an open Bible, a baptismal font/communion chalice, a pulpit, and flames, which all together form a Celtic cross.  Our logo highlights the values that guide our work and worship.

OUR MOTTO

Seeking justice, spreading kindness, embracing inclusion

Our motto was inspired by Micah 6:8:  “…and what does the Lord require of you
but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?”  We thought about what this verse means to our congregation, and we realized it speaks to what we are about:

Seeking justice.  Social justice has long been an important part of the work of this congregation, from the civil rights movement to fair lending practices to issues of gun violence and the environment. First Presbyterian is committed to thoughtful worship and education opportunities that will guide us in being of service to others.

Spreading kindness.  The justice we seek is not the eye-for-an-eye kind, but justice that is fair for all and has kindness as a chief component.  This church is intent on spreading kindness to the members of our congregation, our community, and the world, through individual volunteer work and the church’s financial support of community organizations.

Embracing inclusion.  This church believes that we are all children of God, and there are no favorites.  All really are welcome here – not just to come to Sunday services, but to participate in church activities, serve on committees, teach classes, and become members of the congregation. Participation is encouraged, regardless of age, race, culture, socio-economic status, ethnicity, gender expression, or sexual orientation.
